April 2009 Newsletter

A Newsletter for all the good Barron County citizens participating in the tax reform effort!

Several issues of concern have been brought up before the board in the past two meetings with your CART team. We would like to update you on some of those concerns. The issue of representation by county and city government is of grave concern especially in regards to tax implications that would affect our citizens.

Those of you in the Rice Lake city district have been confronted with a special assessment in regards to an issue which will cost all of you in affected areas, an increase in your property taxes as a result of the city board approving a project to widen your streets, remove trees and install sidewalks. Even though 90 percent or more of you expressed opposition to this project, the board by a 5 - 2 vote, over-ruled your input. We supposedly live in a democracy where the majority is supposed to be in control of their government.

We're currently working on a drive to increase membership and will be posting flyers with membership applications throughout the county. We hope to have the flyers visible by mid April and ask you to alert your neighbors and friends of our organization and encourage them to become a part of our CART membership. The annual dues of $10.00 per person provides us with the necessary funds to advertise, print documentation on issues beneficial to our citizenry, maintain the website, provide the annual picnic and gather information concerning our efforts to managed spending within our county government.

Your CART team is comprised of individuals dedicated to representing the taxpayer's interests in attending ALL county board and executive board meetings pertinent to our concerns. In this attendance, we keep informed of the activities of the county. CART has passed a major milestone in the fact that we have recently celebrated our 5th year in existence and have made some significant progress in regards to tax issues. We hope that you will continue to support this team and organization and thank you for your loyalty.

Our annual picnic will be held on Sunday, June 14th in Almena at the Shadyside Memorial Park from 1 -4 pm. We need your reservation for this event by May 26th to order the food. The cost is $2.50 per person to cover additional expenses associated with this event.

As a point of interest, we would like you to take some time to read what another state has done in regards to property tax reform. Specifically, let us refer you to the state of Indiana's HEA 1001 referendum. You can research this proposition by typing in HEA 1001 in one our your search engines or go the website: www.in.gov/gov/files/Property_Tax_Summary.pdf

Wouldn't it be nice if we could get this reform implemented in the state of Wisconsin?

We'll be looking forward to seeing you at the picnic and our CART meetings.

Your Cart Team.
