NO DUES FOR 2011

Your CART team held their first meeting for 2011 in Almena on Monday January 3rd. Our new chairman, Rick Wuorenma, conducted the meeting and the board unanimously approved a motion to waive the annual dues of $10.00 per current member for 2011. New members, however, will be required to pay the annual dues. In keeping with our commitment to managed spending, we decided not to collect dues in 2011 as our treasury balance is sufficient to accommodate normal expenses for the year and we did not see a need to collect additional dues. Unlike the operations of the county, state and federal government - we learn to live within our means and are still able to represent the citizens of Barron county on tax related issues. Governing bodies will always do whatever they can to increase their revenues. They never have a problem with spending and often spend where it isn’t needed. Your CART board takes pride in announcing this decision as we welcome our members into the new year.

Meeting dates for 2011 were also established and we will no longer meet on a bi-monthly basis. On occasion, a special meeting may be called as needed to address an issue of importance. The remaining membership meeting dates for 2011 will be on the 1st Monday of the month in April, June and October. All meetings will be held at the Almena VFW at 7:00 PM.

Also at the meeting we discussed a couple of tax related issues. One of those issues concerns the Department of Natural Resources and in that regard we have received the following from team member, Ray Johnson.

With the 2010 election, Barron county has a new assembly person, Mr. Roger Rivard. Rivard is a strong advocate for smaller government and controlled spending. Our kind of guy! He is a citizen of Rice Lake and is known to many CART members. He has been appointed to serve on the Assembly committee overseeing the DNR. This is a great opportunity to bring some fiscal controls to the DNR. For information, the 2011-12 DNR budget is $583.4 million and the 2012-13 budget is $583.2million. If a reduction in budget of just 5% were imposed we would save approximately $58 million over the two year period. CART plans include writing letters to the local news media and directly to Rivard encouraging him to work at reducing the State’s DNR budget.

While CART normally concentrates its efforts on tax issues within the county, it is felt that this is a good opportunity to take advantage of and we encourage our members to share their thoughts on the DNR issue with us. Please go to the website for contact information to your CART team. We would like to hear from you.
