October 2009 Newsletter

A Newsletter for all the good Barron County citizens participating in the tax reform effort!
Since our last newsletter, there have been a few changes within Barron county government with the departure of Duane Hebert as the county administrator. The county board has chosen to proceed with the administrator position as the option for governing the county and Jeff French has been placed in the interim position of county administrator during the interview and hiring process. Jeff has also chosen to place himself as a candidate for this position permanently. Whatever the outcome, I am sure that Barron county residents will be much better off than with what we have gone through under Hebert’s direction. There has been little change in any operations within the county other than the presentations that have come before the county in regards to balancing the budget. In addition to his duties as finance director and now interim administrator, Jeff is very capable of handling the budget concerns and keeping taxpayer costs to a minimum and we in CART encourage this response.
Our summer has kept members of the CART team involved heavily with the Chetek-Weyerhauser school proposed consolidation. Several of us have attended the school board meetings involved with both districts and we have held discussions with Superintendent Al Brown from Chetek, and the board of education. A referendum for consolidation will be on the November 3rd ballot for our consideration. Although CART has not made any recommendation on this issue, we have looked at the tax implications and determined that the outcome of such a consolidation would not be a tremendous impact on our local citizens. The referendum was brought forth by the Weyerhauser school district and as a result, both areas must pass this issue in order for the consolidation to take place. CART has always believed in the rights of individuals to make their own choices in regards to issues concerning tax implications and we encourage voters to make their preferences known on election day.
At this time, we are planning our next CART meeting on election day, November 3rd at 7 PM in Almena, WI at the VFW. We will be discussing the future of CART and also presenting a position in change to the operation and functions of the CART team. We will be looking at more participation from our members and an appeal to having more representation at the county board meetings where we as a watchdog group for the taxpayers of Barron county need to make our presence known. Please make every effort to attend this meeting. If we can get a commitment from just a few of our members to help with our activities, it will make a tremendous difference for all of us.
Don’t forget to VOTE on November 3rd and attend our CART meeting as well.
